Saffron Buns

Prepare dough. Before adding the flour, stir in 1 beaten egg and 1 tsp. ground saffron dissolved in a little milk. Shape the dough into buns, loaves, or rounds.

To make the special Christmas Buns (julkusar), pinch off small pieces of dough and shape into 1/2″ wide strips, about 4″ long. Put 2 strips side by side and curl in the ends. Stick a raisin in each curl. Let rise, brush with beaten egg, and bake.
